Tournament MVP
![](/Images/ClipArt/jhalmrast1.jpg)
The Jerry
Halmrast award is given annually at the conclusion of the Bismarck
Rotary Wrestling Tournament to the wrestler who is selected the
individual outstanding wrestler of the tournament. The winner is
selected by the coaches of the teams competing at the Rotary. Many
of the wrestlers who have won the Halmrast award have gone on to
noteworthy achievements beyond the high school mat.
The award
is named after Jerry Halmrast, who committed over 20 years of
his life to the sport of wrestling. As head coach of the Bismarck
Demons ('59-'60
through '74-'75; '84-'85 [co-coach with Mark Carter]), he coached
9 state championship wrestling teams and was the first coach from
the state of North Dakota to be named the National Wrestling Coach
of the Year, in 1972-73. Halmrast is a member of the North Dakota
Wrestling Hall of Fame.
